According to Chazal and the Zohar, The word Pakad in Genesis 21:1 signals and speaks of the End of Days, the time of the resurrection. It also tells us when that will happen and what happens to the rest of the world, but we’ll get to those deeper secrets in a moment.
According to the Zohar, the portion Vayera, the 4th in the Torah, has a lot to do with the soul journey at the time of death. And let’s keep in mind that in the portion prior to Genesis 21:1, we’ve covered the destruction of Sodom and Gomorra, which led to the incest of Lot with his daughter, which we know eventually led to Ruth and to King David and thus to Mashiach Ben David, and we know that this was an extreme process of separating out the spark of holiness from the klippot, negative husks.
And for whatever reason, Sodom has the same gematria value as the spelled out letter Zaddi and “Sodom” and “Amora (there is no G in the actual Biblical name)” have the value of the spelled out letter tet, and that zaddi (90) and tet (9) together have the normal value of 99, which was Abraham’s age at the verse Genesis 21:1
Morever, “Sodom V”Amora” has the value of 425, which is the value of one of the 72 triplets (Names), CHT, the one that Moses used to remove all the negativity and thus slay the Egyptian (Cain, for those that understand) which began his saga of redemption. And is it not thus relevant that the Sitrei Torah concealed within the Zohar commentary on Vayera, delineates and explains about the 72 Names (triplets). And just to note, by removing the kolel of 1 from 425, we get 424 Mashiach ben David. But this is all just background.
Indeed, the portion of Vayera begins with specific encrypted instructions for what we should to do when we feel we’re in distress, but that’s for another post.
Genesis 21:1begins VYHVH PKD ET SRH”And G-d visited Sarah” But we learn from the Sitrei Torah (20:278) concealed with the Zohar’s commentaries on Vayera that all the Names of all the Angels and all the letters are united as one, “in one secret, by the power of the Almighty, then He is called VYHVH, all are united as one.”
Rav Ashlag of blessed memory explains that this refers to the unification of Zeir Anpin and Nukva with the 70 angels below her that control the 70 judgments of Nukva and that the vav preceding the holy Name (VYHVH) is called the “heavens.” We can extrapolate from here to the 70 nations and 70 ministers over those nation (which are presently in such upheaval), and to Gog V’Magog of value 70.
But the Zohar further reveals in this immediate section about the secret of the 248 body parts, which it refers to Man, and which is divided into 216 and 32, further referring to the 216 letters of the 72 (really 70) Names (triplets) and the 32 Paths of Wisdom.
We know that the 32 paths refers to the 22 connections (and 22 letters) of the 10 sefirot of the Tree-of-Life, but 32 is also the value of and the secret of VYHVH. There are so many secrets here, but just keep in mind that 248 is also the numerical value of Abraham, and 216 is also the value of VYHVH PKD.
As a further hint to the significance of this verse, the 3rd word in the verse, Et has a numerical value of 401 and an ordinal value of 23, giving us a complete value of (401+23) = 424, that of Mashiach Ben David.
Now, while the first letter of each of the first 4 words of this verse (VYHVH PKD ET SRH) sum to (6+ 80+1+300) = 387, which turns out to be that of the 3rd line of the Shem Mem-bet, the 42-letter Name of G-d associated with bring the geula, the last two words of the four words sum to (401 + 505) = 906, which is that of the last (the 7th) line of the same Name, which is the line associated with Mashiach and manifestation.
Curiously, in referring to Genesis 21:1 the Zohar relates the story G-d choosing to save Joshua, the High Priest from Nebuchanezar’s burning pit while Satan urged that he be lumped into the same fate of all the false prophets in the pit. The Zohar explains that this is the way of Satan, to take advantage of the world in the time of distress.
Then after a brief discussion of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and the Throne of Judgment, the Zohar (Vayera 29:388) begins dealing with the End of Days and the resurrection of the dead that will happen in the end of days, specifically referring to the prophecies of Daniel, the resurrection of Moses, Yechezkel 37:12, and the key verse (Genesis 21:1) as explained in Zohar Vayera 29:392:
“This refers to the body, Sarah, and the King. So the Holy One, blessed be He, shall visit it at the appointed time, as it is written: ‘And Hashem visited Sarah as He had said.’ He shall visit the body at the appointed time, when He shall visit upon the righteous.” The Zohar goes into much explanation of these end times resurrection and the connection to the visit and everyone should read it for themselves to have better understanding, but this is just background for when G-d visited Sarah at Genesis 21:1, the 515th verse in the Torah, immediately after verse 20:18.
Bells should be going off, alarm bells, for Torah scholars and also for anyone familiar with the prophecies of the the arrival of Mashiach and The Divine Calendar.
First of all, as you may have recognized, Moses prayed 515 times to be allowed to enter the promised land and bring H’Mashiach, and we know from Chazal that Moses knew that if he prayed one more time, his wish would have been granted, but G-d asked him not to because it wasn’t the appointed time.
The Arizal tells us that there are 515 hours from Rosh Hashanah to Hoshanah Rabba, when we connect with the final judgment of the 5 final letters, and that Moses prayer once an hour for these 515 hours.
By the way, verse 21:1 further continues “and the Lord did for Sarah as he had promised.” And in the very next verse, Sarah conceives and bore a son to Abraham in his old age at the very time that G-d had promised him.”
Now, Abraham would be 100 when Isaac was born unto him, and while that is old, he lived another 75 years and bore many more children much later in his life. So while the significance of Abraham having Isaac when he was 100, numerically/kabbalistically at the level of Keter (crown), and thus crowned by Isaac is of a spiritual nature, what the Torah is referring to Old Age is in the time of Mashiach, at the very time that G-d had promised him.”
And what did G-d promise him (Abraham)? That his descendants would be as innumerable as the stars, etc. The Promise was the Covenant of Abraham, made in 2018 HC.

As explained in depth in The Divine Calendar it was in the year 2018 HC that G-d made his Covenant with Abraham, and 2018 CE is the Hebrew calendar year 5778 HC. Moreover, 2018 is 70 years later than Israel became a nation in 1948 CE, and in the Hebrew calendar, it’s the year Abraham was Born (1948 HC). The theme of 70 years is oft repeated in the Biblical (divine) calendar, and 70 also corresponds to the 70 years of David H’Melech, whose midpoint in his life in 2889 HC marks the midpoint in the divine calendar from Adam to Mashiach in 5778.
And a secret of Old Age is that its root letter are tzion-koof-nun and while the letter nun of value 50 has to do with the jubilee years, tzion-koof has the value of 107 and the sum of all the positive integers through 107 = 5778.
As is shown in Nothing is Random in the Universe, all the known mathematical and physical constants in the universe point to a definite dividing point in the time line between the year 2018 and 2019, corresponding to the separation in the two subsequent verses Genesis 20:18 and 21:1.
To see, what is being left behind, let’s look at Genesis 20:18, where we are told, “For the Lord closed up every womb in Abimelech’s household because of Abraham’s wife, Sarah.” “Every womb is Kol Rechem, and rechem, RChM, has the same numerical value as Abraham, and also of mercy/rachem, thus because we know Abraham spiritually represents chesed/mercy, the phrase is also saying all mercy has been closed off.

As for “in the household of Avimelech,” Beit Avimelech has the numerical value of 515, just like Moshe’s prayers for bringing H’mashiach, thus the prayers will be shut off just before the end of days. This also helps explain why this strange incident with Avimelech and Sarah occurred, why Sarah had to enter Avimelech household, just like why the Israelites had to live in the 70 nations prior to the redemption.
And speaking of the number, 70, the letter ayin has a numerical value of 70 and through and inclusive of this all-important pivotal verse 21:1, there are 848 letter ayin in the Torah, which is significant because 848 just happens to equal 2 x 424, the numerical value of Mashiach Ben David.
As is explained fully in The Divine Calendar and The Genesis Prayer, nearly all the significant years in Biblical history ended in the number 8, just like the years 2018 and 5778; and the quantitative number of Torah elements did so as well, like the (80,000 – 3 x 8) words and the super exact 58 combined words, letters, and verses in the Torah; and even some of the key word values, like Noach (58), Abraham, 248, and Mashiach (358), whose numerical value 358 is found 80 times in the Torah, so it’s somewhat fitting that the number of words, letters, and verses in the Torah through this verse 21.1, are 8.0%, 8.5 and 8.8% of the entire Torah respectively and that combined, they are 8.14%
When we consider the small gematria of Pekad, (PKD) looking for its essence, we get 814, which is the numerical value of the all-important essence of the Torah encapsulated in Vayikra 19:18, often paraphrased as Love they neighbor as thyself. This concept of unconditional love reflects back to the 8.14% of the combined words, letters and verses in the Torah. While even the simplified small gematria of 8+1+4 = 13 indicates ahava of value 13, love. Moreover, the square root of the total numerical value of all the letters through this verse is 1300.7…
Those 8% values take into account all the 3 main Torah quantitative elements through this verse, but what about the rest of the Torah, what follows this verse? The total number of words, letters and verses after this verse is 358833 with 358 being the numerical value of Mashiach. 91.9% of the Torah follows this verse and there are 919 letter cafs (signifying keter) through this verse. Is it coincidental, maybe, but not when the whole picture is viewed.
And speaking of 8’s, there are 88 Tetragrammaton’s (YHVH)’s in the Torah through verse Bereshit 21:1.
And whatever we might think of the number 8, there are 616 letter chet of value 8 in the Torah through this verse 21:1 and 616 is the value of H’Torah, “The Torah.” And as for the letter Pe of value 80, it’s found 314 times in the Torah through this verse, which of course connects to the mathematical constant PI (3.14159265358), associated with the 42-letter Name of G-d, the Torah’s first verse, etc,, and it also connects to the Name Shaddai, ShDY of value 314 and to the archangel Mettatron of the same value. For much more on this, please see the Book There’s Nothing Random in the Universe.
Pekad (PKD), means to visit, command, order, count, recall and Peked, spelled the same way is a deposit so G-d visited Sarah is pregnant with meaning. Moreover, the ordinal value of the 3 letters in Pekad is 40, as in the numerical value of the letter mem, and we know from the Arizal that the mem represents the womb.
Nonetheless, the standard gematria of (Pekad) PKD is 184, and it just so happens that there are 184 letter gimmels in the Torah through this verse, of the total 577 gimmels in the entire Book of Bereshit. And 184 is 32% of 577, connecting once again to the 32 Paths of Wisdom and VYHVH that immediately preceded the word Pekad. And if we add the kolel for the 3 letters (and/or the letter gimmel) to 184 we get 184 + 3 = 187, the total number of chapters in the Torah. The letter gimmel is an important marker in the Torah because there are 2109 gimmels in the entire Torah and the total gematria value of the entire Torah is 2109826.
Indeed, many of the letter occurrences through this verse, Bereshit 21:1, tell stories. We’ve examined briefly, Ayin, chet, caf, pe, gimmel so far and have failed to mention that Ayin and chet, 78, are integral to the year 5778 and that Ayin-Chet represents the tree-of-life (Ytz Cha’im), and also that 78 is the the value of MChL, forgiveness. And lots not forget that, according to the Zohar, the very first word after 20:18 is VYHVH, representing the Tree-of-Life.
Other provocative letter occurrences through Bereshit 21:1 are: zaddi, 365, assocaited with the 365 days in the year and the 365 restrictive precepts, etc; koof, 318, associated with the 318 men of Abraham and the 5 parts of the soul, and ShYCh, etc; tav, 1370, associated with Kabbalah (to receive) of value 137 and the age of the universe, 13.7 billion years, etc; and bet, 1260 and tzion, 126, which represent 3 and 30 times 42, respectively; and samech, whose 96 occurrences have a total value that sums to 5760, the year 2000 CE, 18 years before 2018; and there are many others with more esoteric connections.
But perhaps more telling than any of the individual letter occurrences through this verse, is the total number of letters through it, 24507, because 24507/5778 = 4.24143 with 424, as previously said, being the numerical value of Mashiach Ben David. Moreover, 24507/424 = 57.79, analogous to the years 5779 and thus 2019. Also, 24507/PI (3.1415926..) = 7800.8, once again a reference to Ytz Cha’im, the tree-of-life.
Pekad (PKD) begins and ends with Pe and Dalet, which together spelled Pad, redemption, and we know from chazal that Pad, of numerical value 84 is referring to the redemption of the union of the upper and lower Shem Mem-bet or 42 + 42 = 84, about which we also know from chazal that the understanding of these 42-letter Names will bring about the Geula, the final redemption, but for more on that, please read The Genesis Prayer.
Moreover, the spelled out letters Pe and Dalet add up to 81 + 434 = 515, yet another connection to Moses’ prayers for the messiah and a connection to the appropriate time for the promise to be fulfilled. While the 3rd (middle) letter of the word, koof, has a value of 100, signifying keter, the crown, or crowning sefira (dimension). When we add the value of koof, spelled out, 186 to the value of the other two letters, and add 3 for the kolel of the 3 letters, we get 81+186+ 434 + 3 = 704, which is the same as that of the 4th line of the Shem mem-bet (Ana B’koach) the one associated directly with the brit (covenant) of H’mashiach.
When we add the value of koof, spelled out, 186 to the full value of 184, we get 370 as in the 370 lights of Arich Anpin for those that understand.
Why connect the fulfillment of the Lord’s promise, announced in this verse to Abraham and Sarah?
Because they connect to the 3 Mothers (primordial letters as spelled out in the Sefer Yetzirah): Abraham, Mashiach. and Sarah, represent Alef, Mem, and Shin respectively.
And here is a secret reason why from Rav Abraham Abulafia: When we permute (Tzeiruf) the letters in “Abraham our Patriarch” we get EMRY NBVEH, “statements of prophesy”
Is the verse telling us that the Lord keeps his promises, or that in projecting the future time and folding it back in on itself, he has already fulfilled his Covenant and brought the Messiah for us?
To fold time back on itself, He would need to fold it on (into) a specific point, and that point was given to us as 2018. The moment the Covenant was made it was fulfilled, only 3760 years had to pass for us to realize it. So it’s fitting that 376 is the value of Shalom and that the complete value of the 3 Mothers (normal and ordinal) is 341+35 = 376. And also that the values of Abraham, Sarah, and Mashiach together are 1111. A hint to the sublime Oneness that is to come!
And as explained in an earlier post: The numerical value for the messiah Lives (Mashiach Chai ) is 358 + 18 = 376.
As as for the numerical value 211, as in Bereshit 21:1, it’s the numerical value of the “Ari,” whose birth in 5332 had previously been used to pinpoint the arrival of Mashiach in 5778 and whose birth in 5332 is only 2 years off from the number of verses in the Torah (5845) less the 515 through verse 21:1, or 5845-515 = 5330.  Add 2 for the kolel as the Arizal was apt to do, and you get 5332.
