I can’t believe I missed this, but they say everything in its proper time. Every time I see and recite the phrase L’dor V’dor (from generation to generation) in our prayer books I ask myself what is the hidden secret? The LV (36) initials were always an obvious allusion to the LV (36) tzaddikim that constantly sustain the world and generation to generation had to refer to the time of Moshiach (the Messiah), but how? Then just twelve hours after publishing the article about the measure of love, it hit me: L’dor V’dor is also 444.
It too is the measure of G-d’s love, a love lasting from generation to generation from the first to the last, like the love of the tzaddikim.
The phrase L’dor V’dor is from he 13th verse in Psalms 135, and once again Ahava (love), which has a numerical value 13, is connected with 444 and represents an expanse of time that brings us to our generation. It is in the same way that the 13th word of the 13 attributes connected us there with the word l’Elephim representing 2000 generations.
As far the sefirot of the tree-of-life are concerned, when we drawn down the light of love from above through the 7 dimensions of Zeir Anpin to Malchut and then actively return them (Or Chazer, returning light) back up the 6 levels of Zeir Anpin, we have the 13 rungs of the ladder. To ascend and complete the process we need to share the love just as it was shared with us from on high, unconditionally.
Another hint is found in Psalms 116, where EHBTY YHVH, or “I love the Lord” is also 444. We must love from below in order to activate the returning light.
Then again in Nehemiah 9, leading off both the 6th and 7th verse is the phrase ETH HVE YHVH (Atah Hu Adonai) “Thou art the Lord,” again of numerical value 444.
And then in Devarim 11:22, L’Ahava ET of numerical value 444, means to love from aleph to tav, from beginning to end.
Then there is Exodus 24:16. 16 And the glory of the LORD abode upon mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it 6 days; and the 7th day He called unto Moses out of the midst of the cloud. Once again, starting off the verse and this time tying the phrase back to Mt Sinai (130), which, as we explained in the previous article, is numerically and spiritually equivalent to the Ladder (Sulam, 130), But notice again the reference in the same verse to 6 and 7, summing to 13 and multiplying to 42, which is the key through the Ana B’koach, (42-Letter Name of G-d, the mystical 6 x 7 matrix) to unlocking all that love and helping us to climb the Ladder. It is the love app. As explained in our previous article and many others, it has unconditional love built into its structure.
This is why Rav Brandwein of blessed memory said the understanding of the 42-Letter Name of G-d (Ana B’koach) would lead to the geula (final redemption).
