The Land of Moshiach (the Messiah).

In parsha Vayigash, 46:28 it says [Jacob] sent Judah ahead of him to make preparations in Goshen (Goshnah).” Goshen (Goshnah) has the same 4 letters as the Chanukah dreidel, and likewise they add up to 358, the numerical value of Moshiach, the Messiah. This is the area within Egypt (or really outside it) that Joseph arranged for his family and the Israelites to live in exile. The name Goshen (גֹּשְׁנָה Goshnah) is only found twice in the Torah and hints at the two Mashiachs, Mashiach Ben Yosef and Mashiach Ben David, connected to Joseph and Judah respectively. By Joseph reuniting with Jacob, the spirit of Mashiach was restored, and the flow of mazal through Joseph could go to the Israelites, instead of the Egyptians who had been the previous beneficiaries.

The Torah is also telling us that the spirit of Mashiach can be anywhere, even in the darkness of Egypt if we stay connected to the source of the Light, which is a message we need to hear now, more than ever. Nevertheless, with Goshen(גֹּשְׁנָה GShNH), the Torah is also spelling out the travels of the Mishkan (the Tabernacle) and the Ark of the Covenant, whose final home was prepared by King David in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem: G for Givon; Sh for Shilo; and N for Nov.

While, it could be said that 3 letters of the Goshen(גֹּשְׁנָ GShN) adequately represent the 3 locations of the Mishkan, but the H of Goshna (GShNH) could stand for the 5 Books of Moses, since the 4th stop of the Ark of the Covenant was with King David in Jerusalem and King David was born 616 years after Jacob and his family moved to Goshen, and 616 is the numerical value of “H’Torah (the Torah).”

The name Goshen (גֹּשְׁנָה Goshnah) really translates to “toward Goshen” as the Torah is pointing us toward Mashiach. And the dreidel only spells out numerically Mashiach (גֹּשְׁנָה) outside of Israel. Inside Israel the letter Pe, for Po, here, is substituted for the Shin, just as Goshen is also outside Israel, in the land of exile.

The second instance Goshen is spelled (גֹּשְׁנָה Goshnah) is in the mystically important verse Bereshit 46:29 “Joseph harnessed his chariot and he went to greet his father in Goshen.” According to the Zohar, the word for chariot used here is merkava, as in the the chariot, or vehicle of divine revelation, described in Ezekiel’s famous prophetic vision (Ezekiel 1).

The Zohar goes on to explain that what Joseph harnessed was the various levels of his soul and he thus ascended to the level of Zeir Anpin of Atzilut (the highest level) and communed  with the Divine Presence, referred to in the verse as his father, Israel.” In Ezekiel’s vision, He was referred to as “the likeness of a man.”

Obviously, Goshen was a very special place, where the Israelite population would explode from 70 to 600,000 in preparation for the reception of the Torah and the Tree-of-Life and the fulfillment of the Covenant of Abraham (the Covenant of Halves) as God reiterated to Jacob earlier in the portion (Vayigash). With the kolel of 1 the initials of the verse total 107, and as we know, the sum of the integers through 107 is 5778, the year (2018 ce) Rav Ashalag and the tzaddikim prophesied for the final redemption (geula) and Moshiach.

We know the tie in to Moshiach is beyond dispute, but as for the intent to point to 5778 (2018 ce) we need further proof. Mirroring the ascention of Joseph to meet the Divine presence in the first verse of this chapter, “God spoke to Jacob in a night vision and said, “Jacob Jacob.” While the gematria of these double words less the kolel of 1 is 363 that of “H’Mashiach (The Messiah),” what these double words do is connect with the other set of double words, earlier in the portion at Bereshit 44:28: Tarof Toraf (TtRP TtRP).

And the secret of these double words is that they add up to 2018 in gematria sofit or 578 in simple gematria. Now, as regarding the mysterious double words, the Covenant of Halves, and the connection to King David mentioned earlier, half of period from Adam to Moshiach in 5778 is 2889, which is exactly midway through the 70 year life of King David.

The Secret in the Song; The Secret of Moshiach.

In the 40th verse of the 32nd chapter of Devarim we have an oft overlooked statement by Moses
in the middle of the all-important Song of Moses that holds one of the most important secrets of the Torah.

The Zohar goes on and on about the connection between this 32nd chapter (parsha Ha’Azinu) that’s shaped like the Magen David and the 32 Paths of Wisdom, in other words the Tree-of-Life. The Zohar also tells us elsewhere that Moses reincarnates every generation and brings us the spirit of Moshiach each time. We’ve written earlier about how Moshe and Adam (and many other tzaddikim) both knew when Moshiach was supposed to arrive.

The Arizal tells us that David was an incarnation of Adam in the triad (ADM: Adam-David-Mashiach) and we’ve written about how the midpoint of David’s life (2889 HC) marked the midpoint in the Divine Calendar that is punctuated with the arrival of Moshiach and the geula (final redemption) in 5778 (2018 CE) as advised to us by Rav Yehuda Halevi Ashlag (HaSulam), 7 years from now.

And as Rav Brandwein points out, 78 is (Ayin-Chet), the initials of AZ ChYYM (the Tree-of-Life) that is prophesied to manifest for us in 5778, as the Zohar says 70 years after the formation of the state of Israel in 5708.  Please note that this divine manifestation in 5778 is just a powerful window of opportunity and not a foregone conclusion; we must earn it.
Now, as for that little phrase mentioned by Moses, the one that contains one of the deepest secrets of the Torah, it begins with “For I lift up my hand to Heaven, and say,” and follows with “Chi Anochi L’Olam (ChY ENCY LALM),” meaning “As I live forever.” People miss this extremely significant detail because they assume Moses is speaking for G-d, but why would G-d in Heaven raise his Hand to Heaven?

What is this like? It’s like when Moses held up his hand to empower the Israelites to defeat the Amalekites. The Torah tells us as long as Moses hand (was) is raised the Israelites would win; when it wasn’t Amalek, the Kabbalistic code word for “doubt” of the same numerical value, would win.

Whoever was talking for Whom, Moses was and is the channel, our channel. And if his hand remains up in the end of days, we win, triumphing over our doubts so as to experience the Tree-of-life reality. Both related verses are followed by verses describing the use of the Sword (Charev) of Moses (details for another day) and both verse end similarly but with an all-important disctiction. The verse at Devarim 32:40 ends in forever (LALM), while the verse at Exodus 17:11 ends in Amalek (AMLK). The difference between them is that the Hebrew letter Lamed extends upward toward Heaven and the Hebrew letter Koof descends.  Numerically their difference is 70 in standard gematria, and 7 in ordinal value, 77 altogether. The choice is pretty clear: we support Moses and keep his hands held high as the Israelites did during their earlier battle, or we don’t. The Torah goes on to warn us that “G-d shall be at war with Amalek for all generations,’ meaning, we shall face our doubts until the very end.

While the initials of verse 32:40 (ChEL) sum to 39, as in tal, the dew that will resurrect the dry bones at the end of days, an over simplification of a topic that the tzaddikim have filled volumes on, it’s the final letters and the complete gematria of the 3 words that tell the full story.
As Chazal explains, the final letters of a Torah phrase refer to the future and if so, the future this phrase points to is Keter, the highest crowning sefira (dimension). The final letters sum to 620 (Keter), just as there are 620 letters in the 10 Commandments, which was the last time Moses brought us to the summit of the Tree-of-Life reality, 3330 years ago (66.6 jubilee years).
But it’s the full 3 words that explain it all. Most of our readers already know the equation 54 x 107 = 5778 and significance of 54 being the timing rhythm our brains operate on etc., and also that the sum of all the integers though 107 is 5778 in the same way that the sum of all the integers through 73 (Chochma/Wisdom) is 2701, the numerical value of the Torah’s first verse. To those readers it will be all the more significant that the ordinal value of “As I Live (ChY ENCY)” is 54 and that of “As I Live forever (ChY ENCY  LALM) is 107; nevertheless, to everyone it should be relevant that the complete gematria of the phrase Sung by Moses to the Israelites in the 5792 verse of the Torah is 376, that of Shalom (Peace).
Moreover, the 7 Yuds in the full verse represent the 70 years that Adam gave to King David, and also of the Zohar’s prophecies for Israel, and also of Abraham’s life prior to his receiving G-d’s Covenant for Israel in 2018 HC, and thus we see that the 7 remaining years to 5778 represent the final tenth (or tithe, 7/70) of the 70 final years until 2018 CE (5778 HC), so let us overcome our doubts, keep Moses hand upraised, so that Moses shall live forever and Peace shall be upon us, as the Tree-of-Life once again becomes  a reality for us. As aided and guided by the Torah, lets follow the Lamed of forever and look upward, and not downward along the Koof of Amalek for the remaining 7 of the 70 years.
Why was this revealed in verse 5792 and not 14 verses earlier in verse 5778, who knows? Maybe it’s because 14 is the numerical value of David, or of “Hand (YD),” as in the hand that will be lifted up to Heaven. Or it could simply be that this was the 302107th letter in the Torah.

Or it could be that we are to count this time from the 14th verse in the Torah in which G-d placed the lights in the sky? And the brightest of those physical lights is our Sun, whose surface temperature is undeniably, 5778 K, the only temperature that would sustain life on Earth as we know it.
As for the full verse, its initials sum to 161, as in G-d’s higher Name Ehyeh, and the final letters of the entire verse sum to 376 (peace) yet once again (when the kolel of 1 is subtracted).

And the first 3 words of the verse (Ki EShah El) add up to 363, that of H’Moshiach (the Messiah), just in case we weren’t exactly sure to what or to who the final 3 words were referring  in Moses’ reincarnation.

Finally, the first and last letters of the verse (Caf and Mem sofit) also add up to 620 (Keter). And if we neglect the sofit value they sum to 80, as in the spelled-out value of the letter Mem and as in the 80 times the word Sheva (7) is found in the Torah; it’s also the number of times the numerical value 358, that of Moshiach, is found in the Torah.

Let the Torah be our Guide.

And whether this was intentional or not, the numerical placement of the two verses 2nd Book 17:11 and 5th Book 32:40 add up to 107. Go figure!

Aaron, the Hero

My daughter’s kindergarten class reenacted the Passover story and one of the questions asked of the kids was who was the hero? My daughter answer Aaron, “because he went with Moses to see Pharaoh,” while most of the kids said Moses. Now, my daughter usually right on most matters so I put some addition thought into it, and of course as I’ve mentioned multiple times, Aaron is the only person in the Torah whose name is associated with he word “Moshiach.”

And while neither Moses, nor Aaron, nor Abraham have parshot (portions) named after them, Moses’ name is mentioned 616 times,which is the numerical value of “H’Torah” (The Torah), representing all 5 Books of Moses. The numerical value of Aaron’s name is 256, which is the same as Devarim, the last of the 5 Books, and Abraham’s numerical value of 248 is the same as Bamidbar, the 4th of the 5 Books. Moreover the sum of the names of the 5 Books is 2480 or 10 x 248 (Abraham), which is fitting since the Zohar tells us we were given the 10 sefirot (dimensions( in the merit of Abraham. And is we add Aaron and Abraham together plus the kolel of the letters in the 3 Names (Aaron, Abraham, and Moses), which is 12 for the 12 tribes, we get 256 + 248 + 12 = 616, (H’Torah).

But getting back to my daughters point, G-d spoke to Moses directly, so how hard was it for him obey and visit pharaoh? Not to downplay Moses role, but Aaron, had to take it on faith that Moses was talking to G-d and stand before pharaoh–that takes real courage and convictions. So I guess Aaron was the real hero.

And like Abraham and Moshe, while they don’t have one of the 54 portions named after them, they have Books and the entire Torah feeding off their energy.  That Aaron’s is the last Book (Devarim) is interesting because we know that the full cycle of the 27 letters in the alef-bet, or 54, as in 54 x 107 = 5778, the 107th triangular number and the year prophesied by the tzaddikim for the arrival of Mashiach and the numerical value for Aaron’s name, 256 + 107 = 363, the value of H’Moshiach (The Messiah).

While both brothers Moshe and Aaron are the 26th generation in the lineage of Adam, both are also of the soul root of Moshiach, and while we work to bring the great redeemer, let us not forget that both men stood before pharaoh and that like Moses, Aaron will be there at the end of the 107 cycles of 54.  And that to be the hero of the story, we must summon up our own great courage and faith.

“The Song of the Sea” through which the Light Flows.

…continued from The Secret of 10 and the River of Light, where from the unique 10-letter word in the Torah we were discussing the flow of Light through the 10 sefirot and the word river found concealed with it.

As previously discussed the word “the river” is found 21 times in the Torah and it’s usually translated as the Nile, and also the word “river” is found 151 times throughout the entire Tanakh. So it’s interesting that the first of what the Midrash enumerates as the 10 preeminent songs in the history of Israel–the 10 songs of thanks and redemption–is the “Song at the Sea” found at Shmot 15:1-21, paragraph 42.

The number 151 to any kabbalist is synonymous with the name of G-d, Ehyeh spelled out with heys (ELP HH YVD HH) and also the word mikve, the ritual cleansing bath so important for removing negativity. Moreover, the 21 verses of the “Song of the Sea” also correspond to that same higher Name of G-d, the Name at the level of Binah, Ehyeh, whose numerical value is 21, just like the 21 times “the River” is mentioned in the Torah.

And because Miriam’s Song goes hand in hand with the “Song of the Sea” as an intercalated response on behalf of the women to the men’s verses, 1 for 1, we have 21 + 21 verses = 42.

River, Sea, Mikve, Ehyeh; 42-Letter Name; It all seems to be interconnected pretty tightly.

Arguably, the passing through the sea was akin to a huge Mikve and final cleansing of the Israelites on their way to receiving the Torah at Sinai and to complete their 42 journeys in order to reach the Promised Land. And while the first word of the liturgical poem (Ana B’koach) that accompanies the 42 letters is Ana (ENE) of small gematria value 151, the first letters of the first 3 lines of the 42 Letter (6 x 7) matrix are EKN of numerical value 151, so not only is this connection far from coincidental, but one of the purposes of the 42-letter name is to act as a mikve and cleansing away of the klippot (negative shells) and selfish desires for our prayers as they pass from malchut through Zeir Apin to Binah and the upper worlds.

The Ana B’koach (42-Letter Name) is a river, a river we can sail at any moment. (For sailing lessons see The Genesis Prayer)

This auto-cleansing mechanism is one reason why the 42-Letter Name cannot be used negatively, as opposed to many other Names whose usage can backfire, as advised by Rabbi Chaim Vittal of blessed memory, unless we’re in a highly pure and holy state. When the Ana B’Koach is recited, the dams are released from below and the waters rise up. With most other Names, we’re calling upon them above and thus must be in a much holier (more righteous) place.

And along with our prayers, it’s our actions below that cause the waters (ma’im nukva) to ascend and for Heaven to respond and the river of light to drench/quench us. According to chazal, the equation is two drops from below cause one from above, and it’s illustrated in the Name Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh, whose two Ehyehs are 2 x 21 = 42 since both activated by the 42-letter Name (Shem Mem-Bet) recited below by us.

It takes two drops from below, and as illustrated by the Torah for us in its first song by the responsive singing of Miriam and Moses, the women and the men, the male and female attributes must be in harmony for heavenly light to flow freely.

It’s also an illustration that we need to show our appreciation and celebrate it with the community with enlivened joy, harmonizing our voices in one spirit and soul. When miracles are done for us, it may have been our personal actions that Heaven responded to, but they are for the benefit of everyone. Managing the waterworks is a community project if we want the waters to reach the trees and the fields and not just our own backyards.

Trees, Fields, Water and Moshiach

As Zion pointed out in the blog at, the Tanakh has established the relationship between Man, trees, and the field with these two verses: (Jeremiah 17:8) וְהָיָה כְּעֵץ שָׁתוּל עַל-מַיִם “For he (man) shall be as a tree planted by the waters” and from parsha Shoftim, paragraph 73, which relates to Chochma/Wisdom (of gematria 73): (Deuteronomy 20:19) כִּי הָאָדָם עֵץ הַשָּׂדֶה “For is the tree of the field a man…”

Not only do these verses relate to Man as Zeir Anpin and our need to connect to the flowing water of the tree-of-life, but the verse Devarim 20:19 is also alluding to Moshiach, a man who will be the tree-of-life, and thus we find the reason why this verse, ostensibly about not cutting down trees that bear fruit during a siege, is found at paragraph 73, the numerical value of the sefira of Chochma (Wisdom) and at 20:19, an allusion to the year 2019 that, as explained in The Divine Calender and Nothing is Random in the Universe, the tzaddikim have designated as the year the reign of Mashiach will begin, at the tail end of 5778.

The full 6-word 18 letter phrase begins with Lo Ticrot, (LE TCRT) so the final letters of the phrase (ETYMZH) add up to 546 the 10 initials of the 10 sefirot (the tree-of-life), while we can permute the letters to H’Etz Emet (HYZ EMT), the Tree-of-Truth, which may be why the word H’Adam (“the man”) has the gematria sofit value of 611, that of Torah, which is known as Truth.

Moreover, the sum of the last two words in the verse add up 49 + 314= 363, the gematria of H’Moshiach (the Messiah). There’s much more divinity in this phrase, including the sum of the 6 words, plus the kolel of 6 equaling 1610 or 10 x 161, the highest value of Ehyeh, spelled out with yuds (ELP HY YVD HY), but back to the songs.

One last note for now about the” Song of the Sea:” if we  examine  its unique 3-column structure  that  all  kabbalists agree mimics the 3-column structure of the tree-of-life, we see that the first four letters vertically of the right column spell out ELUL, as in the month of Elul (Virgo), the month of tshuvah (repentance), when we prepare for meeting the King of Kings on Rosh Hashanna.  If we consider the 5 Mem-Bet Names of the 72 Names, as discussed in recent blogs, that were used to help split the  Red Sea, separately, there are 72-5, or 67 other Names, and the gematria value of Elul is 67, the same as that of Binah (understanding). Binah is the upper sefira (dimension) associated with the Name Ehyeh. And it’s to Binah that are voices rise when we sing out in songs of praise and appreciation to G-d.

This is what the angels do every day, and what we do far too infrequently. We do do it as part of our daily and Shabbat prayers, but we have to ask ourselves if we’re doing it with the consciousness of appreciation or with a more robotic spirit.  The beauty of the angels is that they can only focus on one thing, and when we are truly singing from our hearts, it’s very difficult to focus on anything else, which is why if we can shift our consciousness to true appreciation of all that G-d does for us and sing out loud, we can become like the angels and our words and spirits will elevate to Binah automatically.   Our voices will be heard in Heaven above.

This is why there are 10 songs of appreciation in the Tanakh; this is why they are so important to us.  There is little else that we can so easily do that will connect us to Binah.  And that is also why singing songs of joy from our hearts makes us feels so good, so ecstatic.  The Light is so pure.

And to show us what the songs of appreciation can lead to, we have initiating the top of the Torah column that “Song of the Sea” appears in, the letter hey (H).  Normally, the 248 columns of the Torah begin with a Vav (V) but there are 6 special columns that begin with a different letter and these 6 letters spell out BYHShMV (In YH His Name, a reference to Mashiach) and their numerical value is 363, the same as H’Moshiach, “The Messiah.”

And the word that the letter Hey (H) occurs in at the top of this column is H’baim (HBEYM), and while some might say it looks like a permutation of the name Obama (EVBMH), it does for sure indicate by the letters Hey and Mem-Bet the  5 MB’s discussed above.  And we could even say that the sofit gematria value of the word being 618 is a reference to the 6 words and 18 letter phrase from Devarim 20:19 also discussed above and often connected with this Torah portion.

Nevertheless, water, like Light, like wisdom, like the music and notes of song, flows, and should never stop, not even when we’re signing the 10th song in praise and appreciation of H’Moshiach.

This Shabbat take the extra time to do the kavannot (Focusing your arrows) on appreciation of Hashem and all He’s done for us before the songs, especially the Az Ishir (“Song of the Sea”) and sing from your heart with joy love and awe, celebrating with the community.  And together, let’s split the Endless Sea (Ym Sof) that separates us from Moshiach, Hashem, and the tree-of-life reality.  And B”H let it become a joyous habit for us.
