The Secret Behind the Prayer of Jabez

The Prayer of Jabez was popularized in a book by that name that came out about 8 years ago and sold millions of copies, promising prosperity, etc if you just recite it.  There probably weren’t millions of instant millionaires as a result, because the universe doesn’t work that way and neither does that specific prayer.

The prayer is useful in certain circumstances, which is why we’re explaining it today. Meanwhile, the most powerful prayer (meditation) we’ve been given for prosperity and for everything else for that matter is the Ana B’koach (42-Letter Name of God) and that one is designed to work with us, to help us when we are putting in the effort, not as a replacement for our effort.

“And Yaavetz called to the G-d of Israel, saying, ‘If You bless me and increase my border, and Your hand is with me that You save me from harm, so as not to sadden [eitzev] me…'” (1 Chronicles 4:10)

To understand how this prayer works, what it does and why, we need the help and explanations of the Arizal, who takes us through the various incarnations of Moses’ brother, Aaron, the only person the Torah associates with the term Moshiach (anointed one). We will only examine the relevant window on those important incarnations that stretch from Abel to Haran (Abraham’s brother) to Elijah, but please explore the rest on your own in the Gates of Reincarnation, Shaar HaPesukim; which was subsequently published in “Apples From the Orchard.”

Please note that prior to being reincarnated as Aaron, this illustrious soul was killed in the body as Haran, by the fires that spared Abraham, whose belief in God was unwavering. Please note further that it was Haran was the progenitor of all the Matriarchs from Sarah to Rebeca (Rivka) to Rachel and Leah and to Ruth, King David and Mashiach, the Messiah.

The following quote from the Arizal refers to the time just after the golden calf incident:

Therefore it is written (Deut. 9:20), “And G-d was angry at Aaron, and sought to wipe him out,” and death was decreed on his sons. As it is written, “And intended to wipe them out, were it not that Moses, His chosen, [stood before Him in the breech to return His wrath from destroying].” (Psalms 106:23) Nonetheless, “returning wrath” implies that the wrath had already had some effect, and this was indeed the case here.

Our sages state (Vayikra Rabba 10:5) that “‘wiping out’ implies destroying progeny,” and Moses’ prayers turned back half of the decree. Thus, of Aaron’s four sons, Elazar and Itamar remained, and only Nadav and Avihu died. Our sages point out that this is the meaning of the verse “And [Moses] became angry at Elazar and Itamar, [Aaron’s] remaining sons.” (Lev. 10:17)

The reason why specifically Nadav and Avihu died is that they, too, sinned with respect to foreign fire.

Still, they would not have been liable to death by burning on account of their sin alone, but [being Aaron’s sons] they were liable to be burnt on account of his sin in not submitting himself to be burnt

Aaron had to make amends (correct his tikun established in the life as Haran) for not submitting himself unwaveringly as had Abraham to the flames. During the incident of the golden calf Aaron could have done this by refusing to help the Erev Rav as his nephew Hur had.  Hur was killed because of said refusal. The lesson here is that regardless of what we think we know, we must belief that God knows more and has the best intentions for us and not to waver in those beliefs

The combination of both [their own sin and their father’s] caused their death, and thus G-d’s wrath found its place to rest. In the case of Elazar and Itamar, however, who did not sin, Moses’ prayer was effective.

Understand this, as well: Just as Haran was burnt and died during the lifetime of his father, Terah, so did Nadav and Avihu die during the lifetime of their father, Aaron, by fire.

After Aaron died he was reincarnated as Yaavetz, who is mentioned in the book of Chronicles (1 2:55). The reason why he was called this is because the curse of Eve was “in sadness shall you bear children,” (Gen. 3:16) and that of Adam was “in sadness shall you eat it.” (Gen.3:17) In the Zohar 2:219b it is said that the phrase “in sadness shall you bear children” is the mystical meaning of “sin crouches at the door,” (Gen. 4:7), referring to the shells [kelipot, negativity] of the world of Asiya, which are called “sadness” and “sin that crouches at the door.” And it is known that the kelipot have dominion only in the world of Asiya.

The Arizal is alluding to the fact that the name Yaavetz (yud-ayin-beit-tzadik) includes the letters that compose the word for “sadness” (eitzev, ayin-tzadik-beit).

As we have explained elsewhere, Nadav and Avihu were the aspect of nefesh of the soul of Adam. This sadness ruled over them, and they therefore died in the sin of their father, Aaron.

Therefore Yaavetz prayed: “And Yaavetz called to the G-d of Israel, saying, ‘If You bless me and increase my border, and Your hand is with me that You save me from harm, so as not to sadden [eitzev] me…'” (1 Chronicles 4:10) In other words, he prayed that his sons should no longer die in his lifetime, as they had when he had been incarnated as Aaron [and Haran]. [The verse continues:] “…and God fulfilled that which he had requested.” His children and students endured, as our sages have pointed out. For this reason he was called Yaavetz. (Mishnah Temurah 16a)

So what does the prayer of Yaavetz (Jabez) have to do with prosperity? Nothing. It is a powerful prayer to help your children. And when Aaron recited it incarnated as Yaavetz he was helping us and helping to bring about Moshiach for us.

When we can recite it, especially in Hebrew, we can do so as Yaavetz had: “he prayed that his sons should no longer die in his lifetime.”

(1 Chronicles 4:10)

ויקרא יעבץ לאלהי ישראל לאמר אם־ברך תברכני והרבית את־גבולי והיתה ידך עמי  ועשית מרעה לבלתי עצבי ויבא אלהים את אשר־שאל׃

With Vowels:

ַיִּקְרָא יַעְבֵּץ לֵאלֹהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֵאמֹר אִם־בָּרֵךְ תְּבָרֲכֵנִי וְהִרְבִּיתָ אֶת־גְּבוּלִי וְהָיְתָה יָדְךָ עִמִּי וְעָשִׂיתָ מֵּרָעָה לְבִלְתִּי עָצְבִּי וַיָּבֵא אֱלֹהִים אֵת אֲשֶׁר־שָׁאָל׃

If you think your children are in danger, or are ill, please do everything you can physically to help them and also ask G-d’s help through this prayer (above). “…and God fulfilled that which he had requested.” His children and students endured”

Use this prayer to help protect your unborn children as well.  G-d has given us the tools.  Just as the Ana B’koach used properly can help you to conceive (as explained in The Genesis Prayer), this prayer can help you keep your children safe.

One caveat that the Ari explains happened to Yaavetz and in so doing warns us not to do, is to make vows. These will not help your situation–the steadfast belief in G-d’s knowing best and His ability to help you help yourself will.  Vows will just add to your tikun as you’ll eventually have to fulfill them.

The 3 Columns of History.

The Torah always presents information to us with great built in redundancy, so it’s not the Torah’s fault if we’re slow on the uptake.  For example, did you ever wonder why there were 70 family members who entered Egypt and began the 210 years of exile there while they grew to 600,000? Or why Moses and his siblings had to pass the Torah on to 70 Elders before it could be given to the people, also 600,000 at the time. And you probably didn’t realize that Noah’s sons had 70 named descendants in the Torah, which eventually populated the world.

Ok, so what?

So if the Torah is expressing a distinctive pattern, it’s our  obligation to try and figure out why, what he message is. This is the Sod Torah, the secret chambers of the Torah that house the deepest wisdom.

The pattern:

Adam (1) – 3 Patriarchs – 70 family members

G-s (1) – 3 Moses/Aaron/Miriam – 70 Elders

By the way, the 70 sub-sefirot are naturally bundled this way; it wasn’t some convenient arrangement of ours.

Then, of course, there is 137, the numerical gematria value of Kabbalah, meaning both to receive and also parallel, as in parallel meaning and parallel universe.

As my friend Mordechai pointed out, 1-3-70 is also 1370 as in the 1370 that Chazal tells us the Moslems were to rule over the Jews in merit of their forefather Ishmael (10 years for each of the 137 of his life), which incidentally ended on June 8th, 2002, 1370 years after the death of Mohammad in 632 CE.

Then there is 1 x 3 x 70 = 210 years of exile in Egypt.

Of course, Keter is 1, but it’s also 100 and 100 + 70 + 3 = 173, as in the 173 keys that the Zohar tells us G-d gave to Moses to access Heaven, and allusion to the small gematria value of the 42-Letter Name of G-d, 173.

Let’s put that aside for the moment and see where the 3 column structure of the Tree-of-life takes us. The Arizal explains that all history is based on cycles of the coupling of Zeir Anpin and Malchut (in it’s most simplistic form, Heaven and Earth).  These cycles include the 3 times of the day (corresponding to the 3 sets of daily prayers); the 7 days of the weeks; 12 months in a year He further states that in the grand cycle, the destruction of the Second Temple in 3830 HC heralded the end of the coupling of Zeir Anpin and Malchut, which will reoccur in the time of the Third Temple. Interestingly, the Second Temple was destroyed in 70 CE, and the first Temple was destroyed in 3338 HC, or -422 CE, which is germane because 422 is the gematria value of the word seventy (70).

Now, since the 2nd of the 3 periods (columns) of history ended in 3830, if this first 2 periods were split down the middle, each would be 1915 years long.  I haven’t found any biblical events that match the year 1915, but Abraham was born 33 years later in 1948.

And similarly, 3830 + 1915 (or alternatively 1915 x 3 periods) = 5745 (1985 CE), which is 33 years before 5778, the year prophesied by Rav Ashlag, etc. for the geula (final redemption) and the arrival of Moshiach and the 3rd Tree-of-life opportunity.

Nevertheless, we know that the 70 years of King David’s life is tied into the  whole Mashiach calendar and that the midpoint of his life in 2889 HC is exactly halfway between Adam (0) and Moshaich in 5778 HC, and so we should see see how his life compares with the 3 periods of 1915 years. As it happens, half way between the first 1915 year period and the the second at 3830 is the year 2872 and half of 33 years later is 2889, alternatively David was born 33/2 years before 2872 in 2854 HC.

So why the 33 years?

Is it because it’s 1/3 of 100 (keter)? Or because it’s 1 more than the 32 Paths of Wisdom (Tree-of-life).  Or is it something deeper, some link/path/gateway that G-d wants us to find on our own. After all, the square root of 33 is 57.45, as in 3 x 1915 = 5745.

Couldn’t be, right? Square roots factoring into G-d’s Divine calendar?

Well, maybe, considering that the square root of 1370 = 37.01, and the gematria value of the 42-Letter Name is 3701. And speaking of the 42-Letter Name, whose small gematria value if you recall was 173, the square root of 3 is 1.73.

Nevertheless, 33 is 2/3 or .666 of the 50-year biblical jubilee year, which the Torah commands us (starting back in 2448 HC at Mt Sinai) to count, until the arrival of Moshiach 3330 (66.6 jubilee) years later.

Now the Divine Calendar is so designed so that Abraham would be born in 1948 HC, and Israel would become a nation in 1948 CE and that 1948 years after the destruction of the Second Temple in 3830, we’d get the 3rd opportunity for the Tree-of-life reality in 5778, which is 2018 CE, 70 years after Israel became a nation, just as it was 70 years after Abraham was born in 1948, that G-d made his Covenant with Abraham (in 2018 HC).

But if that isn’t enough, it was also so designed so that the square root of the year the First Holy Temple was destroyed, 3338 is 57.78, and moreover that the square root of 5778 is 76.0 and 76.6 jubilee years is 3830, when the Second Holy Temple was destroyed.

So G-d had a plan for us all along, and a time table, a very specific one it seems, down to the square roots, so let’s take another look at the 1-3-70 progression. And it turns out that the sum of their respective square roots is 11.1, as in the numerical value of the 1st Hebrew Letter, Alef (ELP), 111, which leads us back to 1 (One). But as for the progression and the cyclical coupling of Zeir Anpin and Malchut, the Arizal explains that the 600,000 Jewish souls at Mt Sinai can trace their soul root back through the 70 members through the 12 sons through the 3 Patriarchs to Adam, meaning:

600,000/70/12/3 = 238.095

and

238.095 = 1/42

=

The atomic weight of

Uranium238

These are just a few of the secrets revealed in just one of the Torah’s many chambers.  But buried beneath this chamber of history is another chamber, with deeper secrets, with clues to the 4th Period of History, he one to come.  We’ll open the seal on that chamber in our next post…

The “Book of the Wars of the Lord.”

A lot happened in Parsha Chukath, and it all has to do with the so-called end of days, the next 9 years.

Right after G-d tells Aaron and Moses about using the Red Heifer for cleansing, Miriam dies in Parsha Chukath in the beginning of chapter 20, the 137th chapter in the Torah. We know that the 137th chapter is significant because 137 is the value of Kabbalah “to receive,” and since 137 is 1/73, the value of Chochma (wisdom), it means “to receive wisdom.”

And with Miriam’s passing, so vanishes the well that sustained the Israelites in the desert, which results in Numbers (Bamidbar) 20:08 G-d revealing to Moses and Aaron how to get water from the cliff (rock). He gave Moses a staff (rod) and told them to speak to the rock. Instead, Moses struck the rock twice and water gushed forward. But because he didn’t speak to the rock as instructed, neither Moses nor Aaron was allowed to enter Israel, which prevented the Tree-of-Life from taking root there. In verse 20:09, Moses picks up the staff and begins the process that ends with G-d saying in verse 20:12, “You did not have enough faith in me.”

The Israelites were in the 40th and final year of their journey from exile to the Promised Land, in Kadesh at the time, the 33rd place of the 42 journeys that took them from exile to freedom. Kadesh, whose numerical value is 404, has a square root of 20.09… and the total numerical value of all those 33 places is exactly 15,000, with 9 more journeys to make in that final year.

After the incident with the water, the Israelites request that Edom allow them to pass through using the King’s highway and they were denied, so the Torah dizzily takes us through the final 9 places, skirting Edom, and through the battles the Israelites fought and won. These were part of the “Book of the Wars of the Lord,” and they highlighted the defeats of the King Sichon, and his city of Chesbon in particular, and of King Og. The action was interrupted to recite the Song of the Well, and the Song of Cheshbon.

Just before the battles with Sichon, after Aaron dies and after they defeated the Canaanites, doubts overtook the Israelites in the final moments, just as it happened at Mt Sinai. The first time, G-d withdrew the tree-of-life and immortality from them, and this time He sent them venomous snakes. G-d then gave Moses the antidote, a copper snake that drew the judgment out of them when they gazed upon it. We know that both the snake and Moshiach have the same gematria and that they are opposite sides of the same coin. Thus when the evil inclination overtook them, G-d let them taste the tree-of-knowledge of good and evil, so that they could once again appreciate the tree-of-life and know the difference.

So lets see what’s really going on here. The numerical value of “speak to the rock” is 848 or 2 x 424, the numerical value of Moshiach Ben David, which may explain help to why Moses struck the rock 2 times. Another reason has to do with Adam eating from the tree-of-knowledge twice, and the 2 times Moses had to carry down the tablets, as will be come more apparent later in this article.

For some reason square roots play a big part in understanding this portion, and thus we find that 8.48 is the square root of 72, as in the 72 Names (Triplets) utilized in splitting the Red Sea (Sea of Reeds) and derived from the 3 verses of 72 letters that describe that splitting. Since Moses staff played a part then too, and both incidents concern water, this connection to the 72 Names is probably meritorious and the Names were probably used here as well. What’s more, as this entire portion is about the final years leading up to the geula and to Moshiach, the 72 Names will probably play a part then as well.

In preparation for understanding this portion we should also note that the numerical value for the phrase used in the Torah “Water from the rock” (Ma’im Min Hselah) is 345, the same as “Moshe” (Moses).

One major hint as to what is going on in this portion is that the gematria sofit (final) value of Sichon (SYChN) is 778 as in 5778, suggesting that the battle-filled 9 final journeys of the Israelites final year might indeed refer to the 9 final years from 2009 – 2018 (5778 HC). And strengthening that line of thought is the structure of the word Cheshon (ChShBVN), where Sichon is found, in which we have the numerical value of Chet (Ch) being 8 and the other 4 letters being 358, that of the word Mashiach (Messiah). Keep in mind that according to the tzaddikim, the figurative brit (milah) of Moshiach will take place in 5778, after 8 years, in the same way that a brit milah occurs for a baby boy after 8 days.

The portion begins oddly as well, and we know that any oddities in the Torah were purposely included to draw the attention of the tzaddikim and the Torah scholars. After the usual “G-d spoke to” the Torah says “that the following is declared to be the Torah’s decree as commanded by God,” which in Hebrew is Zot Chukat H’Torah Asher Zah YHVH L’Emor Daber (TzET ChKT HTVRH EshR ZVH YHVH), or 2160 in total numerical value, and 2160 is 10 times the value of the word for awe (216), the necessary attribute for reaching the Tree-of-life. Moreover, we know that whenever anything in Torah is exactly 10 times a known numerical value, it usually means that it is inclusive of all 10 sefirot (dimensions). In this case, it is also not coincidentally 10 times the numerical value of the sefirot of Gevura, representing spiritual judgment, and of the 216 letters in the 72 Names (Triplets) of G-d.

The word, Zot, of numerical value 408, according to the Zohar is a reference to the time of Mashiach, and also refers specifically to the 408 letters missing from the 600,000 composite letters in the entire Torah (599,692). The value 408 is also .666 of 612, the value of the word Brit, Covenant, as in G-d’s Covenant with Abraham that took place in 21018 HC.

The word, Chukath, is composed of ChK and T, employing that same KCh, of numerical value 108, as the word for “take” in the phrase “Take the staff (rod),” used to channel the water. 108 is also the numerical value of the “golden calf,” the second sin—Adam’s was the first—to cause Man to lose the Tree-of-life reality. And just to be clear, 108 is also 2 x 54, the numerical value of the “staff” that Moses used to strike the rock, and since “water from the rock” is and allusion Moses (345), he struck himself (and Aaron).

Reading of The Divine Calendar know the extreme significance of the number 8 in terms of Biblical dates and the timing for the arrival of the Moshiach, but the letter Chet, of numerical value 8, when spelled out without the yud, has the spelled-out word value of 408, as in Zot. Moreover, using that particular spelling, the spelled out value of the 3 letters in the word Chukat (ChKT) is exactly 1000, an allusion to the crowning and highest sefira (dimension) of keter, and also to the completion of the Tree-of-Life in that all 1000 = 103 meaning all 10 dimensions are completed within the perfectly balanced 3 column structure of the universe.

Nevertheless, the first 4 words of this odd phrase, “that the following is declared to be the Torah’s decree,” add up to 2019, when the kolel for the letters is subtracted, and 2019 is the first year that the tree-of-life reality is supposed to be in effect. This interpretation is strengthened by the presence of the word Zot that begin the phrase, and whose square root is 20.19

Now, the next four words of the odd phrase can be split into 2 pairs, TzET ChKT and HTVRH Esh. The second pair can be read as Rosh H’Torah (Head of the Torah), and the numerical value of the first pair, TzET ChKT, is 916, that of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, the author of the Zohar, which together makes a powerful statement whose timing was concealed within the gematria and purpose was signaled by the cryptic word Zot.

Now, as for the “Book of the Wars of the Lord” which is Hebrew is B’Sefer Milchamot Hashem (BSPR MLChMT YHVH), while the first 7 letters total 420 in value, the first of the 3 words, B’sefer, has an ordinal value of 54, same as the value of the rod.

And as we’ve discussed in previous articles 54 is not only the timing frequency (54 beats/minute) that the human brain functions at, but it is the measure of the double cycle of the 27 Hebrew letters and moreover it solves for the equation 107 x 54 = 5778, where the sum of the positive integers through 107 also equals 5778.

The numerical value of the “Book of the Wars of the Lord” (BSPR MLChMT YHVH) is split into the first 2 words of numerical value 860 (or 10 x 86, the value of the Name of G-d that reflects spiritual judgment, Elohim) and the Tetragrammaton (YHVH) of numerical value 26. Together they add up to 886, plus a kolel of 2, which gives us a value of 888, recalling what we said about the number 8.

And if you doubt the connection, please note that the sun of the values of the spelled out letters plus their kolel in the word Moshiach (MshYCh) is 888.

Observing the letters in the “Book of the Wars of the Lord” (BSPR MLChMT YHVH) we see that there are 13 letters centered on the central letter Chet, once again. And adding the 1st and last letters, and working inward to the central (Chet), then summing their square roots give us 66.652, as in the 66.6 jubilees years (Biblical mandated 50 year intervals) from the reception of the Torah in 2448 HC, when we last stood at the foot of the Tree-of-life to 5778: (BH, SV, PH, RY, MT, LM, and Ch)

The 52 in 66.652 can signify the level of the Tetragrammaton known as Ban, and referred to as Malchut, the bottommost dimension of manifestation. 52 is also the numerical; value of the phrase’s initials (BMY), which can also stand for the 42-Letters of the Name of G-d.

If we peel off the letters of each word, starting with their initial we get BMY, etc we’re left with 4 triplets and the letter Tav (T), which as the last letter in the alef-bet indicates finality and the level of malchut. Then if we add up the square roots of each of these 4 triplets we get 42.3 plus .1 for the kolel and we get 424, the numerical value of Moshiach Ben David: (BMY, SLH, PChV, RMH and T)

How do we know to permute the letters in this fashion? Because we are told by Rav Ashlag that in the Zohar Shlach Lecha #289, the Mashiach, as did Daniel, permuted the famous letters in Daniel 5:25 MENE MENE TEKEL UFARSHIN in just the same way. “G-d has numbered the days of your kingdom and brought it to the end…”

Whether we divide the letters in pairs of triplets, the two letters left out Chet and Tav, interestingly enough for the letter Chet (ChT) once again, or numerical value 408.

As for the initials of B’Sefer Milchamot Hashem (BSPR MLChMT YHVH), they connect to phrase recited during the highpoint of the Amidah prayer connection Baruch Cavod YHVH Mimkomo (G-d is in his Everlasting Place), whose initials are BCYM, and also to the 42-Letter Sword of Moses hidden within the Song of the Sea, whose initials also begin Mi Camoka Belim YHVH (MCBY), recited just before the Amidah. That these initials sum up to 72 is significant as the two tools necessary to fight these wars will be the 42-Letter name and the 72 Names (Triplets). In case you are wondering the Caf is the complimentary letter to the Tav (T) in Milchamot.

The wars described in the final journeys of the Israelites will be repeated in one form or another within the next 9 years, and the torah is warning us as to what will happen. As hinted at in the name of King Og (AVG), the last 9 years of the final 70—Ayin(A) has a numerical value of 70—will be split into two parts, the 3 years—Gimmel(G) has a value of 3—and the final 6 years—Vav(V) has the value of 6. This means that for 2009 there will be a break at 2012, probably when Amalek (doubts) take hold in earnest after the Mayan illusion, and the wars will continue for 6 more through 2018. Recall that it was in verse 20:12 that G-d says, “You did not have enough faith in me.”

Regarding those doubts, the last time we stood to receive the Tree-of-life, the Israelites weren’t able to wait the final 6 hours for Moses to return from upon Mt Sinai with the two tablets of the Torah of Moshiach and receive immortality. And in Chukath, we see again that they couldn’t wait until the final end of the 40 years in the desert before complaining, and yearning to return to Egypt.

Doubts were always their downfall and have always been ours. While the Israelites defeated the Canaanites and the Amorites, they never defeated the Amalekites, who kabbalistically represent their doubts because the Hebrew word for doubt (Sofek) and Amalek have the same numerical value. And this is the greatest war of all, for it will determine who receives the geula (final redemption) and who reaches the tree-of-life, and conversely, who stays behind again in the world of the tree-of-knowledge of good and evil.

According to the Baal Shem Tov, the spiritual significance of the red heifer that begins this portion is to help us cleanse ourselves of our ego, which is at the root of our doubts, and which we know will be all the more important for us to do as the days of the final redemption approach over the next 9 years.

Vayikra and all the Secrets of Healing.

The Baal Shem Tov has said that he learned all the secrets of healing though the first verse of this 3rd Book in the Torah, Vayikra. I wish I knew them for I’d surely share them with as many people as I could, but I do understand how he could get them from this verse.

This portion is all about the sacrifice that the Tabernacle priests, (Aaron and his sons) made and should make on our behalf to mitigate and cleanse the guilt of our sins. The portion begins with the 256th paragraph of the Torah, 256 being the numerical value of Aaron, the only person connected with the actual word Moshiach in the entire Torah. And within the first word of the Book Leviticus, Vayikra, is a small (reduced) letter alef, the first letter in the name Aaron, and the first in the Hebrew alphabet.

This is all pertinent to what the Baal Shem Tov of blessed memory learned, because illness is tikune, which means its a form of punishment for some guilt, some transgression in this or some previous life, and when he healed someone, we was in essence making a spiritual sacrifice on their behalf, much as Aaron and priests did when the Tabernacle and Holy temples existed. That’s why the Torah repeats “He will be forgiven” (V’nislach Lo) at the end of all the sacrifices. When a sin is forgiven there is no longer a reason for punishment, and more often than not the punishment is just a wake up call to make someone aware that they have a sin that needs atoning.

We know that it’s all about the alef, whose spelled out value is 111 because there are 111 verses in this portion and there are no coincidences in the Torah. This letter is the tip of the revolving flaming Sword of Hashem (HShM) that brings judgment and protection of the heavenly secrets with each of the 4 arms of the alef extending along a different blade edge. It’s also the 42-letter Sword of Moses (MShH) that brings wonders (PLE), which is spelled as Alef in reverse with Alef at the tip. But that’s not the source of the secrets.

The numerical value of this small alef (ELP) used as elef (ELP) is 1000. And the rest of the word Vayikra (Called) is 216. Now 216 is Gevurah (the sefira of judgment) where according to the Zohar the voice of the shofar hails from, the voice of the shofar that was mentioned in Exodus (Shmot) 19:19 at the giving of 10 Commandments (Utterances) .

Together the 2 components have a gematria value of 1216 and when we subtract 2 for the kolel we get 1214, which is the exact numerical value of both “70 languages” (ShBAYM LShVNVT), and for “permutation of the letters” (ZYRVP HEVTYVT), which is, according to the Zohar, how all those secrets and much more are revealed.

When you understand the connection that you’re making and are in the right consciousnesses and the letters roll the secrets are revealed. We can explain the connections and thus prime the letters for you, but having the right consciousnesses is an individual choice and is only had by doing your spiritual work.

It’s not coincidental that this portion lies shortly before Pesach (passover) when we must work hard to remove all the chametz (impurities/dirt) from our homes/lives. It’s more than Spring cleaning; it’s digging deep within our souls as we clean to unearth (un-leash from malchut) our klippot (negative husks). Ever try to clean computer cables? That’s what we’re like. Our positively charged souls have this baked on grime clinging to it, that we need to scrape and grind away. And as we do that physically, we need to meditate that we’re doing it from all the difficult parts of our lives. Like the illnesses, the difficulties we’re facing now are there to show us what we need to work on and where to scrape for G-d is merciful and gave us many gifts and tools, as we’ll see below.

As the Book of Vayikra begins it’s the first time G-d is speaking to Moses in the Mishkan (Tabernacle), which is normally shielded from him by a cloud. “God called to Moses, speaking to him.” “Vayikra EL Moshe V’Ydaber Adonai.” All the words are jumbled from the normal order that we’re used to seeing in the Torah.

In our recent article, “Sometimes We Forget” we discussed the verse “G-d spoke to Moses,” “V’Ydaber Adonai El Moshe…(VYDBR YHVH EL MShH)” which is in fact the most numerous verse in the Torah and is found 91 times in the Torah, and as it just so happens this is the 91st chapter in the Torah. Yet here these words are jumbled: “Vayikra EL Moshe V’Ydaber Adonai.”

When things are jumbled they are done so to conceal and when things are concealed they are more powerful and more important to us, which is why the dirt of the surface is easy to find and remove but not so much that in the crevices and beneath tables.

In this case, the jumbling also brought the two letter Alefs in the phrase together, side by side or even superimposed, but what actually happens is that “Vayikra EL” becomes combined and has a numerical value of 248, that of rachem, mercy and also of Abraham, whose name also begins with Alef, not coincidentally. This is the mercy (grace) injected into the judgment to bring the healing.

This also why the jumbled phrase ends with “V’Ydaber Adonai,” also of numerical value (248), that of rachem (mercy/grace).

As previously discussed, 91 is the value of the all-important unification of the YHVH with Adonai (YEHDVNHY), the connection between Zeir Anpin and the Shechina, (the female aspect of G-d that pertains to our world), the very connection that Moses makes for us, the bond between Heaven and Earth, and the connection we should be making in our heads when we say Amen.

So as we’ve seen the jumbled phrase Vayikra EL Moshe V’Ydaber Adonai” is structured as 248, Moses (345), 248, and one could say that it’s Abraham, Moses, Abraham. But it’s also Moses, who is Zeir Anpin, in the middle of 2 x 248 = 496, which is the numerical value of Malchut, and thus the necessary unification of Zeir Anpin and the Shechina, Heaven and Earth in order to bring forgiveness and healing.

The Tabernacle was concealed by the cloud. Moses (Zeir Anpin) was concealed within Malchut. Mercy was concealed within Judgment. The cures were concealed withing the illnesses. And the tiny letter alef was concealed within this phrase. As we prepare for Pesach and Mashiach, let’s dig through the concealment and search out every tiny bit of negativity in our homes, lives, and souls.

By the way, the tiny alef is the alef of Amen.  The first Book of the Torah has 50 chapters, giving us the letter Nun (N) of numerical value 50. The second Book of the Torah has 40 chapters, giving us the letter Mem (M) of numerical value 40. And a we start the 3rd Book, we begin the 91st chapter with the tiny Alef (E) of numerical value 1, completing the backwards (concealed) word NME or EMN (Amen), of numerical value 91, the tip of the sword.

So say Amen and mean it.
